The Broadband over Powerline (BPL) project the City embarked upon
is currently adding customers.
Despite some unforeseen setbacks with the project, the infrastructure
is in place and several customers have been enjoying high-speed internet
since 2007.
The advantages of BPL include an always-on high-speed connection
without the need for telephone or cable service, and the freedom to
plug the BPL modem into (almost) any power outlet in the home –
without the need to run lines in home.
BPL does not work well enough in areas where the primary electric
lines are underground, and other areas that are too far from the existing
fiber optic backbone to have a sufficient bandwidth reach their power
lines.
The VOIP telephone service initially offered by the cities contracted
service provider has not moved beyond the testing phase, currently
internet only service is being offered. 3rd party
VOIP services have been successfully used over the BPL connections.

corner lot near one of the above listed streets, but your street is
not listed, you may still get BPL, depending upon where your electric
