Four Years. Elections for members of Council shall be non-partisan and shall be conducted on the first (1st) Tuesday after the first (1st) Monday in November in the odd-numbered years, by the regular election authorities of Sandusky County. (Charter 3-2)

City Council's last raise was approved by the voters in 2007 after the Charter Review Committee proposed an amendment to increase Council's monthly salary and put the proposal on the ballot.
Currently, City Council members are paid a fixed $400 per month, as prescribed by the City's Charter. The Mayor's salary is set by Council at the annual reorganizational meeting.
Members shall be paid a salary set by Council by a majority plus one affirmative vote at its annual organizational meeting. Such salary shall be four hundred dollars ($400.00) per month, payable bi-weekly or the minimum monthly salary necessary to qualify for Public Employee’s Retirement System.
